With the exception of backstroke all swimming races start on the block, out of the water.
The key to a great start requires a swimmer to do three things.
Listen. Anticipate. React.

Listen to the start commands. Anticipate the start. React with speed into a streamline.

Start Basics

  • Toes over the edge of the block

  • Feet shoulder width apart

  • Bend Your Knees

  • Dive out not down

  • Remember a start is a jump! Putting your focus on leg force,

acceleration, speed, and propulsion will help you jump farther out- into the water
